Was anyone successful upgrading the head unit to touchscreen? Looks like the AB wire has to be included in the LX (refer to the OP Images) for it to work with the touchscreen unit.

No since both receivers aren't the same (see the pics below). Aftermarket is the only way

Can't, you will be missing some cables with the LX

Yes, that's why I mentioned above that an after market unit is the only option. The durability and exposure to high heat/ freezing temperatures depending on your climate is something to definitely consider.
