So I was driving one day and saw smoke coming from under my hood. Opened the hood and smelt burnt coolant. At the time I didn’t have time to do a full diagnose myself, but I rented a radiator cap test kit. I saw coolant coming out of where the turbo and cylinder head met.

I took it to the HONDA dealership to get it fully diagnosed. Told them what I saw. Paid $350 to have them tell me my turbo was cracked (smh) and to replace it was $1700 for part and around $900 for labor. Having this information from the dealership, I declined the service and choose to do the repair myself.

Im currently in the middle of my repair. Im doing a MHI2 upgrade, PRL DP & FP, also intercooler. With only the new turbo and coolant lines connected, I re-did the coolant compression test and STILL saw/heard the coolant leakage coming from the same area (cylinder head and turbo). I decompressed the radiator and unbolted the turbo to get a better view. Re-pumped up the compression to 15-16 PSIs and found the leak.

The leak was actually coming from the cylinder head. Looking at the motor, there was a small horizontal crack on the cylinder head right above where it meets the turbo. Maybe I’ll add pictures later, I just wanted to put this out there for the club.

Hello (OP) GSXRXACCORD
I just found out I have the same issue on my 18’ accord 2.0. After clearing up the antifreeze on the head the fluid returns (fills) up the nose area between the turbo and cylinder head when warming the car up.
I havent taken anything apart just yet. But I would like to know what you ended up doing for the repair?
Thanks in advance!

Hello all, I have a 2019 Accord 2.0T that developed the same "hairline" fracture as in the posted pictures. This happened last year when the car had just over 50k miles on it! I've taken most of the turbo intake plenum off (x2) to find it and then "tried" to seal it w/ K&W Fiberlock Head Gasket & Block Repair and then a JB Weld Hi-Temp Metal Repair (neither worked!). From the sounds of it... it's a manufacturing defect and Honda should step up & cover it! Though, we all know Honda is not willing to lose thousands of dollars w/o contesting it. As it stands... I have to put approx. 6 - 8oz. of Coolant in the Overflow tank every week. At least, until I can find a cylinder head to replace it.

Well it's Very Bad for Smog Test & Will Not Pass !

That's Just a **** Poor Casting - has what they Call " Porosity "

Head & Castings are Suppose to be X-Rayed , I'd Be Freaking Pissed Off !

Started smelling coolant while i was driving looked down at my gauges and noticed my temperature was way above normal parked it and noticed a small pool of coolant in the exact same liitle pool as yours was collecting in. took the intake off and pressure tested it and heard a small air leak and found a hairline crack in the same area as yours. 2020 Accord 2.0T with 92,000 miles.

Hello All, I have a 2019 Accord Sport 2.0T and have the exact same hairline fracture as the pics posted. My car had approx. 50k on it when this happened and I also put about 8oz. of coolant in every week. I have now disassembled twice, once to investigate exactly what was going on (tried K&W Fiberlock Head Gasket & Block Repair= failed) and the second time to clean thouroghly and apply JB Weld Hi-Temp Metal Repair= failed. From the number of reads with the exact same problem (I know Honda has people monitoring these forums), Honda should step up to the plate and acknowledge a manufacturing defect because that's exactly what this is! I'll follow suite and file a report with Honda and the NHTSA. Thanks.

I'm just waiting for this to happen to me. I got 43k on 18 EXL 2.0 ☹. This is disappointing cuz I really like this car. Maybe it's one of the reasons they are getting rid of the 2.0. I'm sure they know about the issue. Guess what. If this happens to me and they do nothing..... I'll have it repaired but I will probly never buy a new Honda ever again. Especially the new ugly 2023 Accord. I'll shift my interest to Toyota.

So this is where all the 2.0 head gasket folks are posting! I was on a different forum where most posters were complaining of all 1.5 gasket issues and doubting the legitimacy of 2.0 issues. I just got my 2018 2.0 with 95k miles scoped today at the dealer to confirm a gasket breach in cylinder 2 and 3.

Some quick history:
I noticed coolant loss about 5 mos ago in the reservoir and radiator but did not see any leaks, white foam under the oil fill cap, smoke out of the exhaust, visually contaminated oil, coolant smell from the vents, wet floor boards or overheating. Pretty confident it was simply a pinhole in the radiator somewhere I decided to refill and observe for any further loss since the vehicle ran fine otherwise. In total I added 2/3 of a gallon. About a month ago, the check engine came on with cylinder 2 misfire. I replaced all the spark plugs since i was so close to 100k and also changed out coil pack on spark plug 2 myself with honda OEM parts. I had suspicions of what was going on but was hopeful for the best outcome. Vehicle ran fine for ~750 miles and then the misfire came back. I brought the vehicle in for diagnosis and my fears were confirmed...a blown head gasket and a $5k bill.

I am hoping the service manager can get some goodwill from Honda because there is definitely a trend here with most failures around the 90k mark. Completely unacceptable.

🤦🏽 this is different than the issues here. Add an other nail to the coffin of the 2.0. Hopefully nothing like this happens to mine.
