Android Auto. After summoning Google Assistant, radio is silent.

Hello,

This is happening on my 2019 touring 2.0t.

The FM radio is playing, android auto plugged in. Then you summon Google assistant, ask her something, and after that's done, the FM radio doesn't come back, until you reselect it as a source. Does that happen in yours? This is reproducible every time. I took a video of it as well, (below)

Whats going on here? The sound comes back normal when using the built in assistant...

When I summon Google Assistant I don't use the voice button on steering wheel I just speak out "OK Google". I listen to XM not FM but when I'm finished w/Google Assistant it returns to XM. I also have my phone sitting in the cup holder while it's plugged into USB port and my phone is a Samsung Note 10+. Try not using the voice button on steering wheel to see if that makes a difference and let us know.

HI there

Thanks for your reply, I just tried summoning with the ok Google phrase, it's the same exact issue. I have Samsung s10+. I wonder if I have some setting switched off somewhere...

You're welcome, sorry you still having the issue. Not sure what setting could be switched off, but I would start w/the simple stuff... unpair the Bluetooth of your phone to the car, remove the connection of Android Auto to the car, then start all over with repairing phone, and setting up Android Auto also (if you haven't already tried this). One other thing to check if you haven't already is to make sure your system is up to date. Good luck... keep us updated.

After doing some more research, this issue is fairly widespread according to the Android Auto community boards. However I'm still unable to figure out why this is happening.
Investigating further, it seems that there are 2 separate volume controls, one for music and one for the assistant (guidance control). And after summoning Google assist., the volume never returns to the overall audio but stays in the guidance mode which only limits volume to 11.

Tried re-pairing everything, clearing caches on my s10+ as well as installing beta of the Google Play Services (as someone suggested on the AA forums). Also the infotainment is on its latest version.

So far nothing has worked, what's strange is that I've had a friend with 2019 hybrid touring try this and he could not reproduce it.
Hi, just to cover the bases, have you tried turning off Bluetooth on your phones?

There has been some development.

I believe I have fixed this issue. When I was doing research, many ppl mentioned that this was supposedly fixed with the Google Play services beta update, so I went ahead and join the beta program but the issue was still there. This morning I decided to clear all data from the Google services app as well as Google Maps and the Google application itself(I am running Android) . I also reset the Honda head unit infotainment to factory stock settings.
And for good measure I also wiped the cache partition on my phone.

After doing all of that, the issue seems to be completely gone, after summoning Google Assistant the Android auto returns control of the volume and switches back to whatever Source was playing previously, as it should.

I am not sure exactly which step in this process has fixed the issue, but hopefully this helps somebody.

Will post here if anything should change.
Glad you got it figured out and hopefully it's a permanent fix. Technology as good as it is can be a royal PITA at times.
