Hi everyone,

My 19 Touring 2.0T has 8.5k miles, and I noticed after driving for longer period of time (30+ miles at least), when doing full turns around parking lot, or just stationary in garage and turning the wheel, there's what I can best describe as floor board creaking sound coming from under the steering wheel area/under dash. Since it only happens after longer drives, thermal expansion on some part or something to that effect is probably what's causing the sound. I do not hear this sound from the outside of the car, only inside the cabin.

I took it to the dealer, they supposedly checked the typical suspects, but of course could not reproduce the issue, therefore found no problems. The mechanic told me the stock Michelin tires "chirp" when turning (probably not my issue), he also pointed out it might be the brake pads or something like that, since they've expanded after long driving and they move around inside their brackets (probably not my issue either since I don't hear the issue outside)

I'm just wondering if anyone has anything similar happening, or if it's just my OCD!

Here's a video of the problem, second half has most of the creaking.
Thanks!

** I just realized I might have posted into the wrong category, but not sure how to move the thread. Sorry about that.

I have some updates. I initially thought the noise was only happening when steering a lot, but today I recorded new video from under the car, and as you can see it's definitely happening even when steering just a little. Still no idea where it's coming from, but can actually hear it pretty good down there "somewhere"...

I am getting a similar sound. Its not as pronounced as yours. But to me it sounds a bit like the spring in the strut is squeaking/creaking as it rubs against the rubber in the strut. My dealer said they couldn't find any major issues. When I take it back again in August I will have them look in to it again.

I have the same noise with my 2018 Hybrid Touring with about 30k miles. I notice it when turning the wheels when parking etc. Definitely a creaking / cracking noise.

Bit of an update: I was able to replicate the issue with the tech sitting in the car with me. They concluded it's a problem somewhere in the steering rack, so they ordered the part, but it's currently on back-order so who knows when they'll receive it. Will post once I get in and get it replaced.

I have the same exact sound so if they share the part number with you, please post it so I can take it to my dealership...

Ok just picked mine up from the dealership. Was told the left front shock was bad and they replaced and realigned it. Drove like a dream home and guess what, no groaning / creaking sounds.

Oh nice to hear that. I'm still waiting for this steering rack to be replaced, but will let them know to check the shocks, or is it struts?

Let me go and check my paperwork and see exactly what they’ve replaced. I just knew it was going to be a pain with me having that Active Dampening System, but they ordered the part yesterday and was finished today.

Ok based upon the paperwork, it was the front left ( drivers ) strut that was replaced. 414125 is what they have it listed as. I’m sure that’s just want they list to justify the job, the actual part number may not be that.

Trust me this is painless compared to my first 2019 Ram 1500. $72,000 for that truck and hadn’t had it 3 hours before it started raining inside of it. My only gripe with this after 48K miles is the creaking sound when warm around my HUD. Drives me crazy, I’m about to pull it and start sound deadening that area.

Oh I solved mine. Had the same exact issue when car was outside in Georgia heat for few hours. You shove some form of felt tape (I actually used velcro, the fuzzy side., in between where the HUD plastic meets the plastic trim). no more sound. Kinda hard to see from the pic, but I put it around all edges. Also, apparently no way to pull off the HUD area trim unless you disassemble whole dash....

Thank you for showing me this as since it’s in the garage I’ll go put some in now. Of course when it first started and I took it to the dealership, they could not replicate it. I picked it up and as soon as I drove off, there it was again.
