I've heard/read this a few times now so I figured I would come here to ask. But, a lot of those were from CIVIC owners. Is this true for Accords as well? That Honda uses thin/cheap paint? I already have a chip I need to touch up but just worries me because I want this car to be my lifelong vehicle.

It has been described as "soft" easy to chip paint. Not sure if the paint is cheap or the application process (number of base coats followed by number of clear coats) is the issue or the paint itself is cheap. Unfortunately, the only way to totally prevent chips is not drive the vehicle. There are products (3M Clear Protective Tape) that can be applied to areas prone to getting chips, but I have no experience with it.

I would say its very cheap. The slightest tap from another door or object will chip it. A few months ago my girlfriend accidentally opened her car door on my driver side back door and chipped it pretty good. I was actually standing there when it happened, and there wasn't any force behind the door swing either. She just opened it up a bit too far and it tapped my door. And chipped. We both park in the garage and therefore don't have a whole lotta room, and this definitely wasn't the first time, as this happened with my other vehicles too. From previous experience, none of my other vehicles had any chips from this, and I was actually surprised about the chip.

This prompted me to inspect my car further, and that is when I really noticed that the front of my car looked like the surface of the moon. Pocked with chips. I went to my dealership to buy matching touchup paint. Unfortunately the paint was too dark, and now the spots where I used it are very noticeable. Oh well.

Again that's the clear coat not the paint. It's the thing that bothers me most about the vehicle. And as before I would take everything negative you say about this car with a grain of salt was your clearly biased and upset with your vehicle and service.

I don't know man. We pay top premium for a vehicle that is supposed to be all about quality, and what we get is defects left and right. I like the way the car drives. It's smooth, fast, comfortable and looks nice. I added things to this car I would never normally add, like a powered subwoofer, tinted vinyl on the turn signal lights and plasti dipped the emblems. When I wash my car I complete it with a wax. I condition the leather seats. I even purchased weathertech all weather floor mats when I purchased the Accord. But I can't get over the things that are defective. I am willing to overlook a lot. But the BT issue is what has ultimately left a very sour taste in my mouth.

Again you're the only one on here who has all these defects/problems. Stop coming on here and complaining in every single thread about things you don't like about the car and sell it already. No car from any manufacturers perfect and all has things wrong with it. You can always find something you don't like about any vehicle. At this point you just sound like a mad child because you keep coming every single thread using his excuse to complain about your vehicle. You need to learn some patience because really waiting 30 seconds for your Bluetooth connect is not a big deal.

Have you read any of the posts on here? Because if you had, it is, quite literally, littered with problem posts depicting issues with this car. Branch out a little bit, check out other forums about this car. ****, look at the subreddit for this car, the issues I have described are there too, and I am not the only one that has them. Problem is, people like you that have not dealt with the issues that came with a car that cost $33k, so you just tell them to stop whining and convince us all that the problems are either not real or not important.

And I will trade it in, when the time is right, which is somewhere around before the warranty expires and the chip shortage goes away. Buying a car right now is not really an option as car supplies are low and what is left out there is twice as expensive.

I read just about every post on here. And again the Bluetooth not connecting after 30 seconds and having some issues is no big deal. I have some problems connecting my Bluetooth every once in a while as well. No big deal. You're the one that chooses not to do with the issue. We've given you numerous avenues to pursue and yet you don't but still come on here and complain. We've told you to reset the entire thing, go to different dealerships, but you refuse to do any of that because it seems like you like coming on here and whining more. You think that 30 40 $50,000 Mercedes , Audi, and others don't have problems they do. When the biggest POS is I ever had was a $60,000 BMW 5 series. The cost of the vehicle is irrelevant, when there's multiple companies providing components for all of these vehicles. On top of that when you're producing things that a mass scale like this things go wrong. Now you're going to about every single post someone makes the past 2 days, and complain about your vehicle in it. And again there are many people on here who have given you alternatives to explore and you haven't, so at some point the blame falls on you. Any issues I have I do with personally. If I had to go to the junkyard and get a new Bluetooth module and see if it works, and then go back to Honda and charge them I would do it. If I needed to go to a different dealership to get the car fixed I would do it, I have done it. I've gone out of state to buy a vehicle cuz the dealership wouldn't deal here.At any rate stop going everyone else's posts and whining grow up.

Yeah this is exactly what I was talking about. You don't have the issues, so you downplay them. Oh your BT takes 30 seconds to connect, but not 5 minutes like mine does.

Honda has always been known for the quality. This gen Accord sure has it's fair share of problems, and what kills me is people just ignore the issues. Were all so conditioned to ignore issues. But since you claim I have done nothing about my car issues, I'll share with you what steps I did take.

In the past year, I have brought my Accord into the dealership about 6 or 7 times. These are issues outside of regular maintenance visits.

One was because the battery failed just outside of 1 year of ownership. One was the random rattling that seems to come from everywhere. And the rest was because of the BT.

The dealership couldn't replicate the issues I was having when I used iPhones. I even brought video of the events happening, of which the dealership says they can't accept. The video show the random disconnects mid-drive. They did reset the head unit, which temporarily solved the issue.

When I moved to an Android phone, the random disconnects stopped but what replaced that problem was the BT would not connect right away, and could take anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. The times I took it to the dealership for this issue was met with them saying it's normal behavior. Is it really normal to take 30 seconds to 5 minutes to connect? Not in any of my other cars, no.

But now you tell me I should visit junk yards so that I can replace the Bluetooth module. That's kinda ridiculous. And visiting another dealership is like 50 or 60 miles out of my way.

But hey, it's cool man, no need to get mean or belligerent and throw around insults. No one is forcing you to read my posts or to reply. You are doing that all yourself.

Says the man who just listed all his gripes again and keeps replying lol. I have responded in many of your posts I know what you have done and not done. Honda doesn't make the battery that went dead. And literally EVERYONE gets a dead battery. You had a rattle they fixed it so what. Every new car I have ever owned needed something attended to after purchase. So basically you went to the dealership twice for minor issues and that were covered under warranty, because that's why it's there. After going the third time for the bt and they would not fix it, I would not keep going back there. Especially after you complain how bad they treat you and refuse to fix it because it's considered normal.
Take it to a different dealer! I'm not being mean, belligerent, or insulting you I'm being very matter of fact. You keep jumping in all these posts complaining about your car, but you still haven't even take it to a different dealership, reset your system as firedood and I recommend ect. If the dealership I took it too refused to fix it once I would change dealerships immediately. I used to drive clear to the other side of town for service, and still do for my girls car. The point is you keep complaining but have easy options you haven't tried.
People nowadays expect everything to be perfect and have no tolerance or patience anymore. Honestly the bt not connecting for 30sec may be super annoying to you, but its obviously soured you towards the rest of the vehicle. It's a piece of tech, that Honda didn't make either, and since when does any computer or tech always work properly? Besides that car infotainment technology is about 4-5 years behind the market because of how the development cycle works. Manufacturers are now changing that, including Honda, by switching to open source android units.

Stop making excuses for Honda. When I took my Accord to the dealership, the mechanics even said that the batteries Honda uses are trash and its not uncommon for them to need replacing every year or two. And yet, they continue to use that type of battery. I mean, if the warranty covers it, then whatever. The dealership reset my head unit, which did nothing to solve the issue, as I stated earlier. Perhaps you have all the time in the world to be driving around from one dealership to another, I don't. As I stated earlier, I refuse to go above and beyond the extra mile for resolving an issue Honda refuses to acknowledge. Also, the rattling continued despite the foam Honda sprayed, as I mentioned in my earlier post.

By your own posts, you even say that Honda uses only one coating of clear coat, which causes defects in the paint. You also have BT issues as well. Why are you so accepting of these shortfalls? Shortfalls from a corporation as big as Honda should be unacceptable, and yet all I hear are excuses and that we should be more understanding of the failures on Hondas part. Not me. I paid too much money for a car that was supposed to be higher standards. If I wanted a lower standard car, I would stay with Hyundai or Kia.

Well hey, I appreciate you replying, I really do. There is no further need to reply to my posts as I believe we hit our limit of extent in advice given and has in fact become counterproductive. Try and have a a good and enjoyable rest of your week.

I never said Honda only uses one coat of clear I said they're clear soft. Yes I have Bluetooth issues just right now, and you know what I did? I scrolled down to the Bluetooth section of my phone clicked on Honda hands-free link and in 2 seconds it connected. No big deal. Taking your car to a different dealership is not going above and beyond. You may not have all the time in the world, but you obviously have time to take it to a dealership since you've been to the same one seven times. Every car from every manufacturer has its quirks and will have things you don't like and that you learn to live with. Not just Honda. It doesn't make Honda a poor company. There's a reason why they have the third and fourth best selling vehicles in the world. Have a good week and rest of your ownership Cheers

I don't think the paint issues are specific to Honda. Most manufacturers have moved to paint that is more environment friendly, and these paints chip/wear easily. All the vehicles we owned over the last decade (Accord, Prius, Mazda3, Elantra) would get scratched very easily.Even luxury brands like BMW has the same issue. For this very reason some of my co-workers who bought expensive vehicles applied Clear Bra immediately after purchase.

2018 accord sport 2.0. I've definitely had issues with paint chipping on the roof. Garage kept with a car cover over it in the summer while at work. I had to go to dealership and listen to area manager talk to me about dragonfly spit and tree sap...5th accord I've owned. Will definitely look at other options next time around.

The clear coat is garbage. Every time a bird craps on my car it leaves a permanent spot that can't be removed. I have a 2018 Honda accord 2.0 exl with Obsidian Blue paint that shows swirl marks and scratches all over the car. The clear coat is so soft and scratches real easy. When I first purchased my car which was a left over 2018, the car must have been in the lot for months. It was covered with bird droppings that the dealer tried to remove and couldn't. I had to cancel the car and get it from another dealer. The car I finally got had one bird dropping spot on it that also could not be removed, but it was small so I took the car.

What would some preventative measures be?

Agree ceramic coating is good but it does require some maintenance and it has to be reapplied every 3 - 5 years. It is also can be expensive to have applied correctly/professionally.

@bokennedy20 if you are not familiar with ceramic coating you may want to check out some of information listed here - pros and cons of ceramic coating for cars.
Does ceramic coating make your paint look better or just simply offers protection? I drive a new honda accord that is black and it constantly looks dirty. Just want some advice on keep it clean and what waxes to use too.

Yeah I was gonna do it at Ziebart but it is very expensive like $700-$1400. : /
