Guys I am new to the forum and need your help. I drive a 2018 Accord 2.0 sport. During my journey from Toronto to Montreal, at the Quebec border there was a closure and had to drive through a detour through a small town. While being massively stuck in the traffic, car moving in less than 10kmph in rolling speed intermittently, the engine lost power and completely shut off on the road! all warning lights came on flashing such as engine system problem, brake failure, tpms failure, power steering failed and what else can I say I was so embarrassed as I couldn’t start the car and was stuck in a traffic which I made it even worse. It won’t start after multiple tries and cranking. As the 2.0 versions had the button transmission, I was not even sure how to put the car to neutral and ask for someone to help me maneuver to the side. Called road side assistance and they offered to tow the car to closest dealer. While waiting for almost 30 mins and tried again to start and it ran as if nothing happened. All lights were flashing but car just drove nothing happened. Guys, it was extremely nerve racking and I was stressed to be causing such a chaos already on a detour traffic. After watching a video on YouTube advising me to remove the batteries and hooking them
Up again, got the lights cleared off from the dash. Has anyone had this experience or issue? I am wondering if this could be due to the recent body control module recall which I am yet to perform or anything else…has anyone had this experience. I am driving to the dealer on Tuesday and will keep you guys posted

Sounds like a battery issue but it's odd that it would restart easily. BCM could lead to shutdown of systems, the common one was the wipers though. I would have the recall done and have your starting and charging system checked. Thats the best place to start with something like this.

Thanks, I am going in tomorrow. Will get the recall and get the terminals checked. Battery had good health. But will replace if necessary. Will keep you posted

True! I've suffered from a loose terminal or two in my day. I would go ahead and get the recall done regardless haha but yes, check your terminals.

Maintained and only done 40,000kms (27000 miles done). I store this car for winter so it’s well maintained. I hope it’s not something similar to another post I read had a catastrophic engine failure was having issues that warranty denied although owner claimed no tuning was done. Hope Honda Canada does not come up with a lame story like that!

The dealer checked the terminals and charging systems checked. They couldn’t find the codes since I pulled the batteries and reconnected them. Recall was done but they mostly think for the car to strand and warning lights pop up has nothing to do with e BCM recall. They think the car is in perfect shape. All what I can say now is that it just could be a glitch… nothing happened so far

Thanks, we still don't know if this has anything to do with BCM. I hope to believe it could be due to recall. If the warning lights popped while cruising it would have been fine. But the car shutting off completely and dead for 30 mins is really scary. Thanks.

Have you checked to see if your fuel pump has been recalled (Honda recalls 1.4M vehicles to fix faulty fuel pumps)? There are two links in that thread of two fuel pump recalls.

@Fuz you may want to look at that thread/links also to see if your car is affected by that recall.

The fuel pump recall was done already. If this has happened five times then it’s real issue with all Accord. It did happen in rush hour traffic and it completely shuts off. This is a safety issue and Honda should address this issue

Guess what!..it just died again in my parking lot. This time I am not pulling the batteries. The dealer was not able to recreate the issue last time since I pulled the batteries nd the car drove normally and all errors were cleared. The last time they checked, they said the car was in excellent shape and there are no issues with the car. *** so the new issue how did it happen? Drove 550kms for four hours on a long journey and just parked my car in the apartment parking lot and was unloading the bags from the trunk, all of a sudden, I felt the throttle losing power, and then just like that, it died. Now it won't start again. Here is a video for ref.

While typing this, I am currently at the dealer. I have explained everything I could but I also think could it be a carbon build-up in fuel injector? These are all questions popping up as I have kept this car in mint condition and just doing highway driving.. While trying to call road side assistance, the car just started as if nothing happened. I also went through the owners manual and in the Engine wont start section, it says if your temp is high it wont start....That actually don't make sense...like you said..could it be due to overheating? but there are no signs of car overheating on the guage though. I will keep you posted.

Just to update - so car did not start up last night when I came back from my trip. I believe its due to overheating. Then earlier today, cold start, and just started but all lights on. I didn't want to pull the batteries so they could diagnose the issue

We had pretty hot and humid weather. Overheating wouldn't surprise me. on Saturday I was doing a curbside pickup that local Canadian Tire and my IAT was 170F.

true...it was super hot and humid yesterday at 34c...ofcourse...I love this car and hope it doesn't end up being a lemon on me...

How hot has it been up there? It makes me wonder if it is heat related if there is a major difference in cooling systems between a Canadian and US model. I've driven both my Si and Accord 2.0 through 100F+ ambient temp days in Texas with factor cooling on both the intake and radiator side of things.

It was 34c outside and heat warning has been given for this week. Just that you know, I was driving in the same condition for 4.5 hours journey of 550kms ( roughly 300 miles) may be just one quick break to fill in gas...

The number of electronic gadgets in these cars is my only concern with the car. Sometimes I want to sell it and pick up something older and less complex.

Thats so true. The only computers we had those days were radio, ECU and may be just the AC I guess...lol..

Heatsoak is real at those temps haha I can attest to that. I've never shut mine off even in traffic at 104+ but, again, makes me wonder if there are any major differences in the cooling systems between y'alls and mine. Interested to see what comes out of this. Hopefully whatever it is gets taken care of by Honda for the OP

The car is under 7 year warranty. My hands are tied to take it to a proper mechanic. I don't trust dealerships but at this point I just don't have a choice.

Update - The service reception guy just gave the keys and said it has been fixed. I asked what was fixed? (See attached). Apparently what they think is there was not enough pressure going into the fuel pump and they had readjusted fuel pupm everything. So when I started the car, I could hear a buzzing noise coming ( like flight taking off) from the fuel pump. I asked the technician to talk to me and explained, they are going to replace the fuel pump module.. I am not an expert but all what I can say is I am still not satisfied with their fix. so am still here.

That is definitely a fuel pressure code. Was your pump replaced under recall before this?

yes they replaced the fuel pump when they had the fuel pump recall last year. The latest recall that was performed last week was BCM that was irrelevant to

Final update....they replaced the fuel pump... the buzzing noise was from the rear of the car closer to the exhaust pipes..They think the recall wasn't done properly on the car, so they had to redo it again. I can only understand from all our discussions, they don't know how to find the root cause of the problem. Instead they just replace the part so they don't waste their time. I will be driving again during this weekend. I will keep this thread updated..

Very well could be. Unless they aren't giving all the info it doesn't have a code to suggest the pressure sensor or injector failure. Possibly a loose connection? I'd be curious to see if they checked the main FI relay and its connections. OP is the fuel pump noise you're hearing coming from the rear or up in the engine bay? You should hear some noise from the HP pump up front but not quite like what you stated.

It was from the rear and the technician was able to confirm. Before I could switch on the engine and when I switch it to Accessory mode, the buzzing noise sound comes from the rear of the car.
