Agree... free is the only way I would want/take it. IMO it would be good customer service to provide (and promote more repeat customers) it free if all it takes is a software upgrade that can be installed by the customer via a Wi-Fi update.

Definitely. If it's really just a software update... it's cheaper for them to just have all the devices run the same software as much as possible.
Another valid point... all Gen X Infotainment Centers running the same software would be most logical thing to do for the techs and end users (owners).

I had a Pioneer head unit in my 8th gen that ran wireless flawlessly. I'd pony up to upgrade if the functionality is decent.
Going back to plugging in is painful...

I see a Qi charger upgrade mentioned in the reddit thread. Now THAT would be sweet! That thing is so slow it's useless to me.
