Here’s a video of a guy doing it on an iPhone running iOS12. My guess is there’s an android counterpart to “Sileo” and “Car bridge” which would allow YouTube to appear in Android Auto, I’d look into that. Sorry for not being more helpful!

I've tried that also, didn't work, either because my sister iphone wasn't jailbroken or carbridge doesn't work now. But I'm hoping to see someone do it through android auto with the latest android auto update. I don't know where u located but a shop in new Jersey do it through some soft of software I believe they charge $200-$900 depending on what's needed for tht individual car..

Check out CarStream, it requires no root, and you can download through the Android Auto Apps Downloader (AAAD) app. Highly recommend you always obey the law and never play videos while the car is on the road, or in motion.
