Issues with HondaLink app

I apologized if this is discussed at length elsewhere. I searched the forum and it returned 0 results.

I just bought a certified pre-owned 2018 Sport 1.5. I installed the HondaLink app, scanned the VIN, it recognizes my car, but then I don't get anything from there. Those first 4 fields (total range, fuel, odometer and oil life) are just blank.

My iPhone X is paired with the car, I can stream music wirelessly and when I go to settings/connections, the car "sees" my phone. But the app does nothing.

Is this user error? A crappy app? Something else entirely? I have no idea what the app SHOULD be doing but I assume it should be doing something, and right now, it's not. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I have/use the app w/o any issues. I just checked the HondaLink website and the basic & link features are compatible w/your Sport. If you haven't already go to the Honda Owners website and create an account... as your username for that account will be your username for Hondalink. Try uninstalling the app, closing any open apps, shut down/restart your phone, then reinstall the app.
Also in the car's stereo make sure Honda Link is always enabled for your phone and there is a section where you can turn on/off a number of possible connection paths (I cannot remember where at the moment and I'm not at my car) but once I enabled all of those mine started showing all data before that the millage and oil life only updated very rarely. Tonight I'll try to remember to try to find and document where those settings were and update this post if I can.
thanks for the suggestions, folks.

I took the advice above and deleted the app, restarted my phone, verified my username and password at the web site, entered those same credentials into the app after re-downloading it, it connected, saw that it's a 2018 Accord, and then just like before, nothing happens. So I called support, got shuffled around while I sat in my car in 95 degree weather, finally got someone who said they have so many issues with the app that they can't help me right then and will have someone call me back at some point.

And if there's a menu setting to enable or disable HondaLink access in the car's infotainment system, I haven't found it. Definitely doesn't mean it isn't there.

Just went out to the car and looked again, found the HondaLink app, clicked it, set it to 'enable always' the connection to the phone, the app then shows the phone as connected and data sharing as "enabled", but the app still won't show any data. Frustrating.
Dang, sorry the steps you tried didn't remedy the issue. After my trial subscription and I started paying I had an issue w/the app similar to what you are having (I had let the service lapse before entering my payment method/info). Like you experienced I had to have tech support call me back (on the initial call they suggested the uninstall/reinstall that I said above), to correct the problem they had to have access to my account. To enable them to go into my account I had them send me a temporary (reset my) password (I didn't feel comfortable giving them my password) of which I gave to them to correct the issue(s). Once the issues were corrected I reset my password and it has worked fine since. Good luck getting this corrected... soon.
Fired00d...certainly no apologies necessary on your part, I appreciate you trying to help. Hopefully we'll get it dialed in.

Since we're talking about the app, is it even worth spending time trying to get to work? Is there value in the free version? Is the paid version worth the dough? I don't know if it has a different value proposition based on the trim level (eg perhaps it's more valuable with a Touring model than a Sport).
The free trial features are the same as the paid features so it's worth getting the trial to work to see if you are interested in them. However if you'll look at the previous link I provided (HondaLink) the "Sport" model only has the "Basic" & "Link" features available (Security, Remote, & Concierge are not available). That page also states the "Basic" & "Link" are "Complimentary" so if that is correct you would never have to pay annual fee for it. (y)
FYI, finally got the app working. This is a finicky little bugger, not terrible well designed imo.

Long story short, took a couple calls to Honda support, then a 30 minute trouble shooting call where we finally just did a full factory reset of the infotainment system and all the settings. Then restarted the connection process and everything worked.

Total PITA but I got there.

Glad you got it sorted out. I've been through the infotainment reset before due to factory navigation locked up... you're right it is a PITA!!! :( Should be an easier (more user friendly) way to do a reboot w/o loosing all of the owners custom settings.
yeah, what would be ideal is if you could save your car-related settings in a profile stored in the car's computer that is devoid of device connection info, so reset clears that out but you could then just restore and apply all the other settings.

And this also most definitely qualifies as a first world problem. If this is the biggest issue I deal with today, it's a damn good day!
