I was looking at the Alpine psu-300acd subwoofer and amp. I like the idea of being hidden away, and somewhat “plug and play”, but $800 seems steep for a mediocre sub. I don’t know a whole lot about subs, but I can get a shallow mount L7 kicker 10” solobaric in a slim box for 300. And an amp for maybe $200. I want to keep as much trunk space as possible. What would you recommend?

Psu is nice because it amplifies the other speakers as well, but bass has its limits. You can probably find one on eBay cheaper. You could also go with a different hideaway like kicker hs8 and spend less. Yes a trunk sub in a box will hit harder, but doesn't amp the rest of the system. I'm currently looking into a custom box for my free air 10" in the rear deck
