Looking at the Mid Pipe - Pipe Right Off the Cat - it's Bracket is Deep Purple and the Bracket Off the Bottom of Cat . . Means it been Very Hot . .
Bottom of Cat is Golden so it Flowing into Mid Pipe Pretty Good , but there is Big Dia. Difference in this Area . .
Better Gain from closely matched - mid Pipe would do more and Not be Hacked ..

Most of my experience comes from (H-D) motorcycles and I know those that went for "drag pipes" on their bikes (removed the baffles) lost some low end power/torque. Not sure that would be the same w/the car but may be something you want to check w/a tuner about.

That's funny a guy I know a guy that runs a portable bike chassis dyno. He said 95% of HD owners that brought bikes to dyno with "Drag pipes" and the bikes made less power than stock because the bikes were never tuned afterward. I hate loud pipes as they do nothing but scare and annoy people.

Sadly most that go for "drag pipes" are about the sound (noise) and not about performance.... doesn't surprise me at all that the guy you know found most of them hadn't been tuned.
