I will be performing my first oil change on my 2018 Accord. Is it necessary to remove the panel that is adjacent to the oil pan plug in order to remove the plug. Thank you.

In order to drain oil, you will have to remove the large panel as well as filter. Otherwise where oil drip down will make mess on the panel. I kept the filter protector panel removed to make it easier.

Here is a great DIY video on oil & filter change...

In this video Nick mentions using an electric impact for two of the screws on the big splash guard due to stripping the screws with a hand screwdriver. I read somewhere (can't remember where) that using a JIS screwdriver will eliminate that issue.

You didn't mention which engine you have, but I can tell you for certain that the 1.5 doesn't require the panel removal. The drain plug on the 1.5 has zero interference from that panel. Not even close in the 1.5.

Thanks for the info. I do have the 1.5 and will be sure to check out the drain plug location and not just remove the panel.

you actually dont need to remove the panel. the manual says you do but it will drain without making a mess. you might get a small spillage on the shield but you can wipe it off easily.
