Alternative to struts
PARTS:
Everbilt Extension Spring, 1-1/16 in. x 7 in., 0.105 in. Diameter, Open Single Loop-SP 9628 - The Home Depot $4.66 or
Prime-Line Products SP 9628 Spring, Extension, 1-1/16-Inch by 7-Inch - .105 Diameter - Screen Door Hardware - Amazon.com $5.87
5/16 in. x 3-1/4 in. Eye Bolt
5/16 in. x 1-1/2 in. l Fender Washer
2 lock washers
1 s-hook

PROCEDURE:
drill hole in bottom of right trunk arm for s-hook
pre-thread on bottom of eye bolt: nut, lock washer, fender washer
put through hole nearest the front of the car
on top: fender washer, lock washer, nut
Note: fender washers needed to prevent flexing of metal shelf
put spring on eye bolt, stretch to put on s-hook
Note: eyebolt needed to clear seat back release handle, which was not needed on the 9th gen.
