This thread will be for notification and discussion of system updates for our car...

Software Version - 18AA-2148-001 April 27, 2021

This software contains updates to correct the following potential intermittent errors:
• System reboot occurs after a phone call.
• iPhone device is recognized as USB-Audio, but CarPlay does not launch.
• HondaLink phone connection status shows as “DISCONNECTED”, while phone device is paired via Bluetooth.
• Cover Art does not display during Bluetooth Audio playback on iOS13 and later iPhone OS.
• Rear Camera Dynamic Guideline settings are hidden after USB software update.
• Android Auto does not work after repeated USB connections.
• The OTA update screen freezes once the update reaches 100%.
• System reboot occurs after transitioning to a rear camera screen (shift to Reverse), or any time during ACC ON.
• “Unfortunately, Camera has Stopped” popup message appears.

For those new to performing these updates you will first need to set up your car to connect to your preferred Wi-Fi network (see attachment Page 330). Once that is done follow the instructions in attachments Page 286, 287, & 288 to perform updates.

If preferred updates can be downloaded to a USB drive then taken to car to update. You will need to go to Honda Owners Website - Subscriptions, Downloads, & Updates, scroll to bottom of page to "Software System Updates", insert your year/model, and it will take you to a page you can download update. Once you have it on a USB drive you can follow the directions in attachments Page 290 & 291 to perform updates.

and should I have my iphone connected and be in Car Play or no? I'm kinda confused if this is happening to the car software through the phone or it's the car software directly interacting with the network.
No need. I left my phone in the house when I updated my system last week, although it was still near enough that it was connected via Bluetooth. (My '20 doesn't have wireless CarPlay.)

Assuming you're not using your phone as your WiFi, your phone can be near or far and it doesn't matter.
cool, thanks. I'll try that soon. I appreciate your input.

The car will connect directly to Wi-Fi. Attached are directions to set up your car to connect to your Wi-Fi followed by directions on how to do system updates...

ok, and thanks FireMod.
So I tried updating without the phone connected to the system in any way, don't think I've ever connected it via bluetooth, I always use a cable so the sound through the custom audio system is as high quality as possible. So anyway, I THINK I've setup Wifi because it showed a wifi connection and tried to download the update but said the connection wasn't good enough, which is weird, I was in my garage which is on the other side of the wall from my wireless access point. So I plugged my phone in and it downloaded and prepared and then prompted to install it. Install while Off was already selected and Install Now was greyed out. I tried scrolling all through the document on the screen, tried deselecting Install while Off, never gave me the option to select Install Now. So I shrugged and turned the car off and came inside. I'll see what if anything it says next time I start it up.

@Spanish Johnny really weird that phone had to be connected as it has nothing to do with system updates. If for some reason your system doesn't update you can go to Honda Owners Website - Subscriptions, Downloads, & Updates, scroll to bottom of page to "Software System Updates", insert your year/model, and it will take you to a page you can download update to a USB drive. Once you have it on a USB drive you can follow the directions attached to update your system.

Yeah, that's strange. You're sure it wouldn't let you press "Install Now"?

My thought is the reason you saw that was because your phone was plugged up/connected to system. For it to update/shut down there shouldn't/can't be connected to phone as it may corrupt the update.

100%. Tried deselecting the other option, tried scrolling all the way down in case it was like software agreements that force you to scroll through the entire doc. Nothing.

But this morning when I went to work it prompted me to install and the phone WAS connected again. I said install now (finally let me select it, the other option wasn't provided) and the system turned off and then back on 30 seconds later and I was in business.

Well that blows my theory to pieces.😂🤣

Glad you finally got it completed.
I know, right? Could be a lot of undocumented or poorly documented variables creating the experience. At least it's done.

In my 2018 Accord, I am unable to download the system updates (non-touch screen version). I have connected the USB formatted in FAT32 then from the headunit I could not find the option for downloading the existing software file.

Do you not see/have "System Updates" on your headunit? If you do then wireless or USB should be options. If no is the answer to both questions, then your particular model may not be able to do the updates and a trip to dealer may be required for them.
