Tachometer malfunction??

I have a 2018 Honda Accord EX-L 2.0 with navigation and just noticed this the other day.

When I select the Tachometer mode while driving the numbers 3 - 8 go gray for about 5 seconds then come back to regular. Has anyone else seen this and is this normal?

The numbers highlight the area your needle hovers. Numbers outside the needle are grayish. I thought that was a nice touch.
