Type R Door Sill Prototype

4152 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  BoostedAccord
This is currently a very rough idea and a little project that I've been kicking around. I'd like to do a stainless steel door sill cover specific to the 10th gen Accord that has been die-cut so the paint color shows through on the areas that have been removed. The red R would be achieved by placing some vinyl underneath the door sill. I would need to have these pieces cut with a waterjet...Anyone have access to CAD software?

Nice... better be careful... Honda is going to view your build thread and all the other ideas and build an Accord Type R from the factory incorporating all of the things you are doing to your car. :smile_big:

At least you'll have the "original". Have you given any thought to making this an illuminated door sill? A red light under the parts you would decide to illuminate might be nice... just a thought.

It would be cool, but I wouldn't know where to start...I don't like messing with electrical.

I'm still hashing out this idea and I'll post up some photoshop pics of it on the actual vehicle sometime this weekend. I may not do anything, just an idea at the moment.

Re-posting this image, because the original looks very washed out for some reason...

Here's what the concept would look like on the vehicle.

Generally Moden _ Print Shops

Will Use 3 Layer Material - usually 2 Layered Colors , but 3 Layered Colors are also Common - then Depth Control ( Milling ) Is Color Selected By Depth ..
I Know as I had to set up Machine Like this for a Print Shop , Nice little X,Y - Ball Screws with Depth Control on of Basically High Speed - Router . This Machine being of an Older Design
some Years back - Set the Depth by Hand - Fine Threaded Mount . . Each Color was around .015-.020 Thick so plenty of Room ( All Mounted On Very Flat Surface ) . .
Could even do Buttons - Like White Button with Red Letters saying Nitrous . .

Only I Believe it was Adhesive Backed Vinyl or Might have been Mylar . . Long Time Ago . .

Machine was First of it's Kind on East Coast , and the Idea of it lead Me to Design New Inspection Machine for Inspection of Parts - Flat Blank Parts
Before they get Folded Up - Like Computer Housing , Harris Corp Military Communications Housings , Commercial Printer Machine Housings etc.

Thanks. I think I’m going to change it to an HFP door sill opposed to the Type R.

If you decide to produce those, let us know. Those are very nice!
I miss the days when brands like Mugen and Spoon Sports used to be around more often and supply parts as simple as these. I would love to have a set of Mugen door sills.
