windshield backorder

The windshield on my 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring cracked spontaneously while it was being backed out of a downtown parking space. It has fewer than 7,500 miles on it. I'm told there is a 4 to 8 month backorder for an OEM replacement - the only kind that Honda will accept if I'm to maintain their warranty. Is this length of time excessive? Are there so many problems with Honda windshields that the supply chain can't keep up with the demand?

This doesn't sound right. Who's doing the replacement ... a dealer, 3rd party, yourself?

First of all, I haven't heard of any problems with windshields spontaneously cracking.

Second of all, windshields are a major safety part. 4 to 8 months is way too long for any part, let alone the windshield. Honda has tons of them on hand because they are still building 10th Gen Accords.

It seems like your dealer (or whomever) is BS'ing you. The dealer should be able to get one in a couple of days. I'd check with another dealer or contact the Honda corporate office if the car is still under warranty.

I second all the above.... there is no way a windshield should take 4 - 8 months for a replacement. BTW... this isn't the heated windshield is it? That shouldn't make a difference but was just wondering.
Click on the link I sent and pick the windshield you need.
I am working through Gerber Glass America as per my local dealer. To try to speed things up I have tried several Honda dealers in my area - all use an outside source to do windshield replacements and all of those have told me the same thing - windshields are on backorder.

Have you tried contacting Honda Customer Service - 800-999-1009? I'm sure they have them at factory as I haven't heard of any production stoppages.... they still making them then they still have windshields. Honda out of good faith should pull one and send it to your dealer of choice.

Does your state require annual safety inspections? Where I live they do and a cracked windshield would be cause for a rejection. If your state does, this would be cause for rejection, and the delay may put you past that due date IMO Honda needs to step up.
Safelight Glass has always done an excellent job for us. If they are in your area you might want to see what they have to say.
Safelite offers OEM windshields along w/aftermarket ones.
For the record I have seen several people reporting windshield cracking (forums & Facebook) and Honda has even replaced some under warranty. They seem to start cracking at an edge for no reason.

Good lord this is all I needed to start worrying about. Windshield installation is practically a century old standard part of the business. How could Honda screw that up and hope to maintain a reputation for quality?

And the worse thing is that I seem to be prone to these oddball things.

Make sure you file a complaint with the NHTSA.

My 2018 Accord 2.0T windshield spontaneously cracked from the edge yesterday, I am currently waiting on the ruling from Honda regarding coverage. No impact damage whatsoever and they better cover it! A CA suit was filed a few days ago for 2018 CRVs having the same issue.

That sucks!!! :( Hopefully they (Honda) will take care of you.

Just curious (not that I'm implying this is a factor)... there has been a cold spell in parts of the USA in the last day or so... just wondering if where you are has experienced this chill.
No, I am in SE Virginia and isnt part of the equation. Even if temps were in the discussion why is it that windshields have become so touchy? I keep reading in forums people rationalizing windshield issues/cracks etc because of temp/climate changes. I get it...extreme environmental changes impact glass in a negative way but it seems windshield Technology has fallen of the advancement list and has become a cash cow for those able to replace them

I lease a 2018 Honda Accord EX-L 2.0T and just before I hit 10k miles on it, with the car parked in our garage here in Southern California, I took the car our December 2nd to discover a 6" crack with no signs of impact anywhere and upon calling about the Vehicle services and warranty with Honda, was told that my insurance should take care of the replacement and that Honda is not responsible for this type of damage. Seems to me upon very simple search online that this windshield is a problem in fact and not to mention, a safety issue since that crack has also grown well past the 6" when it was first discovered.

Any help?? Advice?
Was it coming from the side? Honda did replace mine without any hassle. I took it to the dealer, they took a picture of the crack and sent it to Honda and Honda approved the replacement at no cost.
