Hello all first post here. My Touring is about 5 months old and really like it My first Honda.

Currently don't own a phone to use the charger. Plan to het a new phone after the holidays and want to utilize this feature. Based on any information I can find and dicussions with the dealer the green power light should never come on if I am not using the feature. Even if I use it amd then the phone is charged and I power it off so the green light goes out I am understanding that it should not turn on when the car is started. If you want to use, you must power it on manually.

Mine is quite often but not every time a cold start and sporadically a warm start the green light is turning on. Does this happen to anyone else? Does the green light come on when the car is started or never on and only if you manually turn on.

Any input is appreciated as the dealer is also very unsure ..

Thanks in advance for checking your vehicle and responding!

The dealer knows not what he is talking about. My Touring has the charger and the green light automatically comes on when the car is started and turns to amber if you put the correct phone on top of it. You cn hold the soft button down next to the light and turn it off if you wish though.

Thanks for your reply.

Can anyone else confirm if the green light always comes on? Thanks for assistance.

Dealer thinks we need to change the charger because they say it shouldn’t turn on automatically.

Would love to hear if anyone else’s turns on?

Thanks again.

Just about everyone has a charger that is turning on more or less at random. The green light only signals that the charger is 'ready' to charge if a compatible phone is put on it. If no compatible phone is on it, it does nothing.

My green light comes on whenever I turn the car on. You can turn it off but the next time you restart your car it comes back on. I normally keep that compartment closed and don't use it for storage.

Thanks for the response. I reviewed the manual with the dealer and to play devils advocate, if the directions say to power up press the button to get the green light on, why are we all saying it is normal for the green light to go on by itself?

All I can say to that is it wouldn't be the first time engineers and writers (of manuals/instructions) weren't on the same page.

I had turned mine off because I wanted it to remain off unless I wanted to use it so I could store things in there and feel comfortable about it (IE: not having to worry about something <metal> shorting out/overheating/etc. on the contacts). However the next time I turned to car on I found it to be back on. Just figured it was defaulted to be on, decided to keep the compartment closed, not use it for storage, and only open/use it when I wanted to charge the phone.

Really appreciate your opinions and time. I hear you. It’s my ocd that thinks somehow I’ll end up with electronics issues. And I also would like to comfortably use for storage.

Guess with multiple members saying the light automatically turns on I’ll have to deal

The dealer is a bone head! The green light comes on when you start the car to turn it off press the power button next to the green light. When you place an Android phone on the charging plate (if the phone is not fully charged) the light will turn amber. Once the phone is fully charged it will go back to green. :nerd:

Actually, sometimes it stays off when you start the car and other times it comes on. It's unpredictable, which is why those who want it to remain off are complaining about it.

This charges the phone only? Meaning, if I wanted to use CarPlay, I'd still have to plug the phone into USB port? I ask because I like the idea of the wireless charger cleaning the dash up (no phone/usb cable visible), but if i still have to plug the phone in for CarPlay, what's the point of the wireless charger?

Thanks Guys!

Yes, it only charges the phone... Yes, if you want to use CarPlay you have to plug into the USB port. "What's the point of the wireless charger?" It's for charging phone (only) some may not use (or want to use) CarPlay but still want the ability to charge their phone wireless, some may have more than one phone and would like to charge one, while using the other for CarPlay, if there are more than one person in the car one of them could be charging their phone if they forgot their cord (and the phone was capable of wireless charging).

With all that said it would be nice if CarPlay was Bluetooth compatible... would be nice to not have to use the USB port and still have the ability to use CarPlay.

Do you have instructions for unplugging it?
Go to collegehillshonda.com and look at the charging pad kit. There are install instructions for it that you can download. The only parts you need to focus on are the directions to get access to the center pocket. Once you get the shifter trim off, you should be able to reach under and unplug it. :)

Getting there is pretty easy. Pull out the ignition switch trim, the trim above the glove box, the trim on either side of the center console and then the trim covering the shifter area.
