I just bought my accord sport and keep having a issue setting the cruise control. Either mode. Get warning light telling me to shift into drive before can activate. Has anyone else had this issue? Anyone know where drive is on a manual transmission? I have tried 3,4,5, and 6th. Occasionally i can get it to set but it’s random and usually takes many different tries before it will take.

While i still haven’t found drive, I have solved the problem and want to post the answer to possibly help anyone else. I drive a truck for a living and float the gears without the clutch. This apparently confuses the computer and is why it says shift to drive. I have found if right before engaging cruise I tap clutch pedal just enough to move it a little everything works perfectly.

I'm glad that you solved your problem. However, I have a few curiosity questions:
  1. What is meant by "float the gears without the clutch"?
  2. Is your car in gear when attempting to set cruise control, or is it in neutral due to this "float" technique?
  3. How does ACC work with a manual transmission? Does the car change gears on its own to adjust to speed changes (like a 6 speed automatic)?

When shifting a manual transmission if the rpm are correct then will go in gear very smoothly without touching the clutch. If you have one when up shifting say 3rd-4th put light pressure on the stick. When u let off the gas will easily slide out. Maintain the same light pressure where should go into next gear. When rpm is correct it will fall in smooth. Downshifting will take little more practice. When it comes out tap gas to raise rpm slightly and as it falls to correct rpm will slide into the lower gear. Yes the car is in gear when it is telling me this. As far as acc I assume it works similar to the automatic with few exceptions. I have to manually shift. The gears as needed and was told it cuts out at about 20 mph instead of being able to stop. I haven’t taken it down to point it cut out yet. It does apply brakes as needed and adjust speed as it is supposed to do.
