Hello, I like to have Wireless Apple CarPlay in my Accord, and I don't like chineese usb dongles. So I investigated part numbers of car radio receiver, check connectors and so on.

2021 Accord EX-L, after facelift comes with wireless functionality. Part number is 39540-TVA-AD1.
EX-L with installed navigation or Touring models have part number 39540-TVA-AF1.

I was lucky, and bought 39540-TVA-AD1 on eBay for just $299, from some crashed car. It just arrived, I have to install it and will see, what happens.

From what I know, this can be only possible on EX-L and Touring trims, because back side of unit have different connectors that on lower trim levels.

UPDATE:

Non-premium audio system:
2018-2020 Sport 1.5 --> 2021 Sport 2.0 - 39540-TVA-AC1
2018-2020 Sport 2.0 --> 2021 Sport 2.0 - 39540-TVA-AC1
2018-2020 EX --> 2021 Sport 2.0 - 39540-TVA-AC1

Premium 10 speakers audio system:
2018-2020 EX-L ---> 2021 EX-L - 39540-TVA-AD1 or from Touring trim below
2018-2020 EX-L with navigation --> see Touring trim below
2018-2020 Touring --> 2021 Touring - 39540-TVA-AF2, 39540-TVA-AF1
or 39540-TVA-AD1 from 2021 EX-L, but no navigation

Hybrids:
2018-2020 Hybrid EX --> 2021 Hybrid EX - 39540-TWA-AA1
2018-2020 Hybrid EX-L --> 2021 Hybrid EX-L - 39540-TWA-AB1
2018-2020 Hybrid Touring --> 2021 Hybrid Touring - 39540-TWA-AK1
or 39540-TWA-AB1 from 2021 Hybrid EX-L, but no navigation

2018-2020 LX --> out of luck

Hello guys, so I have update on this, and it is possitive. I installed unit from 2021 Accord today and it is working fine :cool:

One problem, which happens was, that radio wants unlock code 😮 and I don't have anything from eBay seller. So I enter diagnostic mode (home, power and source keys) and find VIN code of original car "Initial registered VIN". I also write down radio SN from label. Them I navigated to Honda Radio / Navigation Code Retrieval and Reset Instructions and was suprised how easily I can get code, love Honda 😍

I entered code and viola, it was working. I did factory data reset of unit from settings menu, to get rid of previous owner data and paired phones.

Wireless Apple Carplay is working like charm, I happy with this upgrade.

Some photos from installation.

Where it is located in a car:

Ah yes looks like the 2021 sport 2.0L has wireless but the sport 1.5L does not. So it should work if you can find a unit from a sport 2.0L. I was confused because the website stated that the wireless integration is only available on EX and above models.

@feldsam thanks for leading me here. Again, I am a novice so I have questions that others may know but I certainly don't
Just to be correct, wireless is available on after facelift EX-L, Touring and Sport 2.0. So you should be able to upgrade these trim models before facelift to wireless. I can confirm, that EX-L is working. There is one unit on ebay from Sport 2.0, would be fine, if someone try and confirm too :)

Trims Sport 1.5, EX, LX are out of luck.
What do you mean when you say Trims EX and LX are out of luck? Does this mean that since I have an EX there is no way for me to upgrade to wireless Android Auto/CarPlay by getting a different unit like the 39540-TVA-AC1 or am I misunderstanding?

Hi, EX-L Navi and Touring models shares same part number and it is also called "Navigation unit" instead of "Audio unit". So you, you can upgrade to Navi version too, if you are interested. I didn't metion this, because 1) I am using Google Maps via CarPlay, 2) I am in Europe, so USA maps are useless for me 3) Had EDM Civic X with Nav, and it was not as good as Google Maps.

This is some great work guys! I have a 2018 Accord Touring 2.0 with navigation and 10 speaker system. I was doing some research on my own before finding this thread. I have been looking for head unit 39540-TVA-AF1 to replace my head unit which has an intermittent problem where the navigation and talk to text does not actually output anything. Intermittently works a few times a year since 2019. Dealership won't fix the issue. I tried to order head unit 39540-TVA-AF1RM being a remanufactured unit as I do not want to spend over a $1000.00 for a new one. You cannot order them online as Honda stops the order claiming it needs to be done within the dealership. The dealership will not let me order the newer model that does not match my car even though it is out of my pocket and If I'm spending the money on a replacement head unit, might as well get wireless carplay included.

I have not been able to find a used head unit 39540-TVA-AF1 on eBay or online outside of the dealership websites. Is there any other online sources available or another model number that works?

Hello @PhilipS, everything is possible if there is desire, but this will be expensive and time consuming work, which should be done by guy with knowlage of electrical engineering, to be able to read schematics and figure out what and how to connect it to car.

I think you need unit from 2021 Sport 2.0, Display - it is same on all models, harnesses and lot of patience.

Vehicle: 2018 Accord Touring with10-speaker audio system.
Head Unit Mode l# 39540-TVA-A52

Doner Vehicle: 2022 Accord Touring with10-speaker audio system.
Head Unit Model # 39540-TVA-AF2 (This an updated head unit to Model # 39540-TVA-AF1)

I swapped out the head units and did a side by side comparison. All the plug connections were identical. The unit required a code to unlock the software. I followed @feldsam's instructions in Post #3 where I looked up the vin # by going into diagnostic mode. Took both the doner vehicle vin # and the new head unit serial # to Honda where they provided an unlock code immediately after entering the information. This paired the new unit to the car and I was able to go in connection settings where I now had a wireless carplay option. I have connected my phone and been using wireless carplay for a few days now without any issues. Thanks for creating this thread and to everyone who has added to it.

Any idea what the difference between the AF1 and the AF2 are? I'm wondering if I should be extra picky in getting an AF2 or not

Any improvement in terms of general lagginess/jank as compared to your old head unit?

Thanks for writing this up!
